Amazon.com Review
 | MBT believes in footwear that makes you better from the ground up. MBT: The idea of Physiological Footwear MBT, Masai Barefoot Technology, was invented by Swiss engineer Karl Müller. During a visit to Korea he made the startling discovery that walking barefoot over paddy fields alleviated his back pain. Back in Switzerland, Müller began to develop a footwear technology that would make the natural instability of soft ground such as Korean paddy fields or the East African savannah accessible also to those, who have to walk on hard surfaces. In 1996, after years spent on research and development, Masai Barefoot Technology was mature enough to be launched on the market. MBTs are now available in over twenty countries, and approximately one million pairs of this revolutionary footwear technology are sold every year. How the anti-shoe is pro-body: Because of the specially designed sole, wearing MBTs significantly improves your gait and posture and relieves pressure on your joints and back. It also exercises a large number of muscles, whether you’re walking or standing. This, in turn, stimulates your metabolism, burns extra calories and speeds up muscle regeneration. In addition, MBTs can have a firming effect on abdominal, leg and buttock muscles. The key to MBT is its patented sole structure. The Shank, PU Midsole with Pivot and the Masai Sensor create a soft surface that is akin to walking barefoot on springy moss or on a sandy beach. This creates a natural instability underfoot, which activates the supporting muscle system and has positive effects on the entire body. | MBT technology mimicks walking in barefeet. | Wearing MBT mimicks walking on soft, natural ground. When the heel strikes, the heel sinks into the ground and the body has to stabilize. When the foot rolls forward, there is a controlled rolling over the balancing area towards the ball of the foot. The toe rolls off (without pressure). | MBT's ensure the foot’s natural rolling movement and optimizes pressure distribution over the whole sole. | The Anti-Shoe MBT would like to help people all over the world lead a healthier, more active and happier life. MBT is convinced that human fitness and health are significantly influenced by the way we walk – this conviction has already been substantiated objectively by many scientific studies. MBT therefore attempts to awaken and strengthen the awareness of physiologically correct walking among people world-wide by disseminating the idea and concept of MBT physiological footwear. The benefits of physiologically correct walking can thus be made available to as many people as possible all over the world, in a straightforward and uncomplicated way. | MBT's Masai Sensor creates natural instability, to which the body responds with increased muscle activity. | MBT's Patented Sole Technology The Lasting Board binds the upper and lower parts of MBTs together. The Shank provides firmness to the sole and also ensures the foot’s natural rolling movement and optimizes pressure distribution over the whole sole. The PU Midsole with Pivot triggers an active rolling movement and exercises a large number of stabilizing muscles throughout the entire body when walking or standing. The Masai Sensor creates natural instability, to which the body responds with increased muscle activity. The rubber Outsole protects the Midsole. |

Comfortable orthopedic workout sandals December 1, 2008 Brandy51 (Monrovia, CA) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I bought these sandals because I have issues with my feet, knees, lower back, and hips. These are very comfortable to walk in while giving a good workout and correcting the way we walk. I would buy another pair and recommend them highly.
Great shoes July 9, 2009 L. Brush (Illinois) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I am so glad I found MBT shoes. I do not have full flexation of my ankle due to an injury and had almost given up on walking correctly. With MBT I can once again go shopping with my daughters without limping. These sandals are great and although they look clunky they are very comfortable. I would recommend them to anyone who has a limp due to an injury.
Wonderful! March 13, 2009 Wood Wren (U.S.A.) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Like another reviewer here, I purchased these sandals out of sheer desperation. I run, bike and hike a lot. In fact those three activities are a big part of my life. I was having horrid back pain and hip pain, almost to the point that I was having trouble getting around; and I am not all that old either! Physicians were practically useless. I thing they thought they has a "silly hysterical woman" on their hands, as usual, and to be frank, only prescribed pain pills, which for me, are like poisons. Anyway, to make a long story short, I bout a pair of these sandals, started wearing them around the house and to make the story even shorter, bought the shoes too. I have been virtually pain free since that time. I dearly love these sandals as I truly feel they gave me back my life.
I own 2 Pair of MBT Kisumu Sandals - Love them! June 5, 2010 Diana De Avila (Malta, NY USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
While these might not be the most attractive sandals in the world (look like Teva sandals in a way) they are so so comfortable and effective. I own four pair of MBT shoes and sandals an have had them for 3-4 years now. They are the best and worth every penny spent. These were the ORIGINAL rocker type of exercise shoes. Everyone including Sketcher and Reebok has come out with exercise sandals ... even FitFlop. I have not walked in the Sketcher version but actually, I have felt them and tried them on and did not find them near as solid as my MBT's. I believe that you get what you pay for in shoes. Taking care of feet is vital to health and these shoes help to keep hips and back aligned.
I have facet joint syndrome, MS and other arthritic issues in my back and neck. These are just a great shoe to help maintain posture (they help you stand up straight) and take some of the pressure of the back and even the knees.
They take a bit of getting used to and they ARE exercise to use and will effect balance. If balance issues are a problem or if you have one knee that is much worse than the other (a seriously affected gait), these might be harder to use. I saw this with my Mom who is in her 70's and has a severe anterior gait with one of her knees. These were not an effective option and she prefers wearing Birkenstock sandals for over all foot health. After having worn Birkenstock sandals for years myself, the MBT's serve a more therapeutic purpose. They are nice and I really enjoy all of mine. I have both a tan and black Kisumu.
